The import clearance process for cargo at Mumbai airport involves several steps and requirements. Here are the details:

    1. Filing of Import Manifest: The cargo agent or the shipping line files an import manifest containing details of the incoming cargo with the customs authorities at Mumbai airport.

    2. Document Submission: The importer needs to submit various documents, including the Bill of Entry, commercial invoice, packing list, airway bill or bill of lading, import license (if required), and any other relevant documents as specified by the customs authorities.

    3. Customs Examination: The cargo may undergo a physical examination by customs officials. This examination can be a random check or may be initiated based on suspicion or a red flag raised by the authorities.

    4. Customs Duty Calculation: The customs authorities assess the value of the imported cargo and calculate the applicable customs duties, taxes, and other charges. The customs duty rate depends on the nature of the goods, their classification based on the Harmonized System (HS) code, and any applicable preferential trade agreements.

    5. Payment of Customs Duty: The importer is required to pay the assessed customs duty, taxes, and charges. This payment can be made through electronic funds transfer, Demand Draft, or any other approved payment method.

    6. Customs Clearance: Once the customs duty is paid, the cargo is given clearance by the customs authorities. The customs officer updates the customs system with the payment details, and the cargo is released for further processing.

    7. Delivery of Cargo: After clearance, the cargo can be delivered to the importer or their designated customs broker or freight forwarder. The cargo agent or freight forwarder arranges for the onward transportation or storage of the cargo as per the importer’s instructions.

It is important to note that the import clearance process at Mumbai airport may vary depending on the type of cargo, its value, any applicable regulations or restrictions, and the specific requirements of the customs authorities. APT Logistics ensures a smooth import clearance process.
